A H Cheater, Funeral directors are independent family owned funeral
directors who have been established in Romsey for over 100 years.
Mr Albert Henry Cheater, a former Chief Fire Officer in the town,
first established the business. He was succeeded by Mr Sam Fields
and since 1966 the business has been looked after by three generations
of the Peace family.
Mr Peter Peace carried out his duties as a Funeral Director in
the town with much dignity, care and professionalism for over
37 years until his death in 2003.
Peters son Simon Peace joined his father in the firm in
1981. He is married to Dani and along with Simons son Michael
and Danis daughter Rae, they live on the premises of A.
H. Cheater. Dani, who has two other children Emma and Craig, is
at present training to be a counsellor.
Michael became the third generation of the Peace family to qualify
as a Funeral Director, when he passed his diploma examinations
in 2006. Both Simon and Michael went to school in Romsey and as
boys, were choristers at Romsey Abbey. Simon played for and captained
Romsey Rugby Club and Michael presently plays rugby for Romsey
and cricket for East Tytherley Cricket Club, while Simon keeps
cattle and sheep as a hobby and has successfully shown them at
local agricultural shows over the years. Assisting them as Funeral
Directors are Nigel Mayor and Giles Sadd.
